BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul has spoken publicly for the first time since returning to the country regarding serious allegations made by national team pacer Jahanara Alam. A few days ago, Jahanara shared untold experiences from her time with the team in an interview and later raised serious claims, including sexual harassment, naming several former selectors, managers, and cricketers.
Given the sensitive nature of the issue, BCB has formed an independent committee, chaired by a judge from the Applied Division, to investigate the complaints. The committee is expected to submit a full report and recommendations within 15 working days. Bulbul emphasised that the findings will be submitted to both BCB and the National Sports Council, and decisions will follow based on the committee’s assessment.
He added, “The committee members are highly experienced and will not only investigate Jahanara Alam’s case but also review any other similar complaints to ensure a thorough examination.”
On the status of four officials currently under OSD, Bulbul said, “The process is ongoing. If necessary, action will be taken.”
Commenting on pacer Marufa Akter, Bulbul said, “When Marufa bowled against England, commentators remarked on the beauty of her giinswing. Considering the quality of our World Cup team, with some luck, we could have reached the semifinals and won additional matches.”
Reflecting on the broader development of cricket in Bangladesh, Bulbul noted, “Previously, our focus was mainly on training the national team. Now, decentralisation aims to give equal opportunities to all players, regardless of district, division, or gender. Before this initiative, opportunities were limited to league competitions. This is what we are starting today.”
