BNP has finalised candidates for 237 out of 300 seats. The decision was made during an emergency meeting of the party’s standing committee. Party Chairperson Khaleda Zia will contest from Dinajpur-3, Bogura-7, and Feni-1, and acting chairman Tarique Rahman will contest from Bogura-6.
This information was disclosed by the party’s Secretary General, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, at a press conference held on Monday afternoon at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka.
He said, “Candidates for the seats where none have been declared yet will be announced later. Aside from these, some seats will be left for allies.”
Prior to this, members of the BNP’s highest policy-making forum, the standing committee, held an emergency meeting in the afternoon. The meeting, which lasted for about five hours, was chaired virtually from London by BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman.
The national parliamentary election is scheduled to be held in the first half of February next year. The election schedule is expected to be announced in early December, according to the Election Commission.
