A special drive in Narsingdi has recovered 9,000 litres of illegally stored diesel in a joint operation conducted by the district administration and police.
The seizure took place in Palash upazila during the night of Thursday. A joint team of the district administration and police recovered the fuel, officials said.
The district administration confirmed the information on Friday morning.
According to the district administration, acting on a tip-off, a joint team led by Executive Magistrate Naeem Hasan Shuvo and Additional Superintendent of Police Kalimullah carried out the operation at Mulpara in Jinaradi union of Palash upazila between late Thursday night and early hours of Friday.
During the drive, authorities recovered 9,000 litres of illegally stored diesel.
Officials also fined a person Tk60,000 under the Consumer Rights Protection Act for illegally storing diesel.
Later, authorities confiscated the seized diesel and sold it to the nearby MMK CNG filling station at a government-fixed price. The total value stood at Tk 8,67,510. The amount will be deposited into the state treasury.
The district administration said such joint drives by the administration and police will continue in future in the interest of public safety.
