Bangladeshi citizens have expressed strong confidence in Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus and the interim government, according to a nationwide survey conducted by the International Republican Institute (IRI).
The survey found that 80 per cent of respondents believe the upcoming election will be free and fair, according to a statement released on Monday.
In the poll carried out by IRI’s Centre for Insights in Survey Research, 69 per cent of participants said Yunus is doing a good job, while 70 per cent expressed satisfaction with the activities of the interim government.
“It is clear Bangladeshis see progress under Yunus’ leadership,” said Johanna Kao, IRI’s senior director for Asia-Pacific.
She added, “Their vote of confidence in him and the Interim Government reflects a widespread desire for stability, accountability, and reform.”
Enthusiasm for the upcoming elections is high, with 66 percent of respondents reporting that they are very likely to vote and 23 percent somewhat likely to vote. Furthermore, 80 percent are optimistic that the elections will be free and fair.
“The excitement of Bangladeshis highlights the importance of sustaining reform efforts and ensuring the elections are credible and peaceful,” said Kao.
The survey also shows significant enthusiasm among voters regarding the upcoming national election. A total of 66 per cent said they are very eager to vote, while 23 per cent described themselves as “somewhat interested.”
Kao further said, “This enthusiasm among Bangladeshis demonstrates the importance of maintaining the reform process and ensuring that the election remains credible and peaceful.”

“This finding cuts across their public relations attempts to argue that the vast majority of people still support the Awami League.”
He continued, “And about the same percentage (69%) support the decision to suspend the registration of the Awami League. No love for the Awami League amongst the majority.
“I would suggest that most of the 70% and 69% are the same people, though one would need IRI’s clarification on that.”
