A case has been filed in Jhenaidah over an attack on NCP Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary, naming eight leaders of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and accusing over a hundred unidentified individuals.
Those named in the case include Jhenaidah district Chhatra Dal president Imran Hossain, former president SM Saminuzzaman Samin, general secretary Shahriar Rusel, former vice-president Nayon Hawlader, and former joint secretary Hadus, and Islami University Chhatra Dal convener Sahed Ahmed, among others.
NCP Central Joint Member Secretary Tarekul Islam Tarek Reza filed the case with Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station on Friday night.
According to the statement of the case, the incident occurred after Friday Jumma prayers when Nasiruddin Patwary and his associates were leaving the Old DC Court Jame Mosque in Jhenaidah town. At that time, they were allegedly attacked by a group of assailants using bricks, iron pipes, baseball bats, punches and sharp weapons.
Several people, including Nasiruddin Patwary, Tanaim, Asif, Alamin, Hasibur Rahman, Nahian Khan Niaz and Ayon Rahman Khan, were injured in the attack.
The complaint also alleged that attackers snatched a DSLR camera, mobile phones and cash during the incident. Among the stolen items was a Sony Alpha A6400 camera with a Tamron lens and memory card, valued at around Tk190,000.
It further stated that local NCP activists and members of the public later intervened and brought the situation under control. The attackers allegedly issued threats before fleeing the scene.
Jhenaidah Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge said a written complaint had been received and that the matter is under investigation, with legal action to follow.
