At least eight people, including seven workers and a contractor, sustained burn injuries following a hydraulic gas cylinder explosion at a second-hand iron pipe shop in Chattogram’s Sagarika area under Pahartali Police Station on Saturday night.
The injured have been identified as Md Abdul Kader (60), Md Abul Kashem (60), Md Karim (29, contractor), Abdul Jalil (55), Abul Bashar Khan (60), Jamal Hossain (38), Md Russel (28), and Md Bahar Uddin (45). All are currently receiving treatment at the Burn Unit of Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
According to Md Jasim Uddin, Officer-in-Charge of Pahartali Police Station, the explosion occurred around 7:45pm while workers were attempting to dismantle a hydraulic gas cylinder inside the shop. The cylinder exploded during the process, injuring those present.
Fortunately, the explosion did not cause a fire in the surrounding area. Police and Fire Service teams quickly arrived at the scene, rescued the injured, and transported them to the hospital for treatment.
