Members of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) seized 67 litres of undeclared alcohol during separate drives at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on Tuesday.

The directorate said in a press release that the CIID Airport B-Shift team carried out the operations following a tip-off.

Of the total haul, 44 litres were recovered from seven passengers who arrived from Russia on flight DV-3411, it said.

The remaining alcohol was seized from several other passengers arriving from different countries, taking the total recovery to 67 litres.

The seized brands include Ballantine’s, Grant’s, Barrister, Jack Daniel’s, Absolut, Black Label, Red Label, Famous Grouse, Grey Goose, Smirnoff, and Tundra.

Officials estimated the market value of the seized liquor at around Tk13.40 lakh.

The goods were confiscated under the Customs Act, and further legal proceedings are under way, the release added.
