Forest Department officials seized 51 deer hunting traps during a drive in the Sundarbans Satkhira Range.
The traps were recovered on Saturday afternoon from areas adjacent to Bhutshing and Barrack canals in the Sundarbans.
The Forest Department said an operational team from the Munshiganj patrol outpost conducted the drive based on secret information that several poachers were moving suspiciously in the Bhutshing and Barrack canal areas.
During the drive, 51 “mala traps” used for deer hunting were seized from inside the forest.
However, the poachers managed to flee after sensing the presence of Forest Department officials, and no one could be detained.
Sundarbans Satkhira Range Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) Moshiur Rahman confirmed the matter and said the seized traps have been destroyed, and efforts are underway to identify those involved.
He added that such drives by the Forest Department will continue in the future.
