Police detained four youths who reportedly abducted a woman and raped her in Chandina, Cumilla.
Chandina Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Atikur Rahman confirmed the matter.
According to police and local sources, the victim along with her husband was walking from Madarpur village around 11pm on Sunday. A group of youths intercepted them, where they beat and held her husband captive before forcibly taking his wife away.
In the morning, the accused demanded a ransom of Tk1 lakh from her husband.
Faced with the demand, the woman’s husband sought assistance by calling the national emergency service, 999.
Police then conducted a raid in Kamarkhola village around 5am and detained four individuals. However, other criminals managed to flee after sensing the police presence.
OC Atikur said the victim has been rescued and sent for a medical examination. The process of filing a case is underway and operations to arrest the fugitive suspects are continuing.
