Four workers who were critically injured in a gas cylinder explosion in Chandanaish, Chattogram, were transferred to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka early Thursday.
The injured, identified as Mahbubur Rahman, 45, Idris Ali, 27, Riaz Uddin, 20, and Yusuf Ali, 32, all from Baltoli village in Chandanaish, suffered extensive burns in the blast.
Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, the resident surgeon at the burn institute, shared that Mahbubur’s injuries affected 50% of his body, Idris Ali’s 70%, Riaz Uddin’s 60%, and Yusuf Ali’s 55%.
As they were brought in a critical condition all of them were referred to the intensive care unit after initial emergency treatment, said the physician.
Arif Hossain, who accompanied the victims, explained that the explosion took place around 6am on Wednesday while the workers were storing gas cylinders in a warehouse.
“The locals quickly rescued them and transported them to Chittagong Medical College Hospital,” he said.
Due to the worsening condition of the workers, the doctors recommended their transfer to Dhaka for advanced treatment, Arif further mentioned.
