4.0 richter quake jolts Sylhet

A mild earthquake jolted Sylhet just a week after the previous tremor.  The tremor, which measured 4.0 on the Richter scale, struck at 12:19pm.

Earlier, on Sunday (14th September) at 5:11 pm, Sylhet experienced a stronger earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale.

Met office confirmed the incident and said the recent quake measured 4 on the Richter scale. However, no reports of damage have been received so far.

The met office said the epicenter of the quake was in Chatak Upazila of Sunamganj district. No casualties or damage have been reported in connection with this tremor.

Earthquake experts said that a quake measuring 4 on the Richter scale is relatively mild. While it generally poses little risk of major damage, it can cause minor damage to weak structures or buildings that are already vulnerable.
