Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj once again witnessed a massive collection of charity as authorities opened its donation boxes on Saturday morning. After a gap of four months and 17 days since the last count, a total of 32 sacks filled with cash and gold were recovered.
The mosque’s nine donation boxes were unlocked around 7:00am in the presence of Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Mosque Committee President Fouzia Khan and Superintendent of Police Hasan Chowdhury, reports UNB.
A team of nearly 500 individuals took part in the counting process. They included members of the mosque’s management committee, teachers, and students of the madrasa and orphanage within the mosque premises.
Senior officials such as Additional Deputy Commissioners Mizabe Rahmat (General), Mohammad Nahid Hasan Khan (Revenue), and Jesmin Akhtar (Education and ICT), along with Sadar Upazila UNO Kamrul Hasan Maruf and Rupali Bank’s AGM Mohammad Ali Haresi were also present. More than 220 students of Jamia Imdadiya Madrasa, 120 students of Nurul Quran Hafizia Madrasa, 100 bank officials, 34 mosque committee members, and 20 law enforcement personnel joined the effort.
Earlier on April 12, the authorities had opened 11 donation boxes and discovered over Tk 9.17 crore, in addition to foreign currencies and gold jewelry.
In recent years, Pagla Mosque has introduced a dedicated website and online donation system to accommodate both local and international donors, further boosting its role as one of Bangladesh’s most notable centers of charitable giving.
