Three Indonesian members of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were killed in southern Lebanon within a span of 24 hours, the United Nations confirmed, as hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah continue to escalate.
According to a UNIFIL statement issued on Monday, two Indonesian peacekeepers died when an explosion of “unknown origin” destroyed their vehicle near Bani Haiyyan municipality. The incident also left two other peacekeepers injured, one of them critically.
The development came just hours after another Indonesian peacekeeper was killed when a projectile struck a UNIFIL base near the southern Lebanese village of Adchit al-Qusayr.
UNIFIL said it has launched investigations into both incidents but did not identify any party responsible for the attacks that occurred overnight and into Monday.
UN officials confirmed that all three peacekeepers were serving members of the Indonesian army.
