At least three people were killed and around 25 others injured after a passenger bus plunged into a roadside ditch on Kushtia-Rajbari regional highway in Khoksa upazila on Saturday.
The accident took place around 11:30am near Khoksa Shialdangi Mosque when a bus of Tanha Paribahan, travelling from Rajbari to Kushtia, reportedly lost control while attempting to avoid a collision with a van.
Abu Obayed, officer-in-charge of Kushtia Highway Police Station, said the bus later collided with a sand-laden truck before plunging into a roadside ditch.
Khoksa Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Md Ariful Huq said two bodies were taken to the upazila health complex, while 20 injured were admitted there.
Four critically injured were shifted to Kushtia 250-bed General Hospital, where one woman died after arrival, said RMO Iqbal Hasan. The remaining three male patients are receiving treatment.
Officials said the death toll may rise as several injured remain in critical condition.
