Three flights bound for Chattogram could not land due to inclement weather on Tuesday, Shah Amanat International Airport spokesperson Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil said.
Airlines will review further operations once conditions improve, the official added.
The flights were US‑Bangla Airlines BS350 from Abu Dhabi, Air Arabia’s G9‑526 from Sharjah and Biman Bangladesh Airlines BG121 from Dhaka.
The US‑Bangla and Air Arabia flights diverted to Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, while the Biman flight returned to the capital after failing to land in Chattogram.
Meanwhile, the Patenga weather office recorded 386.8 millimetres of rainfall in 24 hours to 12pm Tuesday, one of the season’s highest.
Ambagan station logged 300 millimetres in the same period. Rain of similar intensity is likely until Friday, with local cautionary signal No. 3 remaining in force over the Bay of Bengal.
Earlier, an airport notice said heavy rainfall over two days had caused temporary waterlogging in the parking area and entryway on Monday afternoon, but the situation normalised by evening after rainfall eased.
Authorities said round‑the‑clock monitoring will continue to prevent passenger suffering.
