Three people were beaten to death by a mob on suspicion of cattle theft in Gazipur’s Kaliakair upazila Sunday morning. The mob also set fire to a truck, police said.
The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed.
The incident took place in Bagchala village of Fulbaria union, said Kaliakair Police Station’s Officer‑in‑charge Shahidul Islam.
Police and locals said cattle thefts had been rising in the area in recent days.
On Saturday night, a group of thieves arrived with a truck to steal cattle in the village. Locals surrounded them, and while several managed to flee, three were caught and beaten to death, OC Shahidul said.
Legal proceedings are underway, he added.
