Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained 27 people for attempting to enter Bangladesh illegally from India through the Chamusha border in Chapainawabganj’s Bholahat Upazila.
According to the border force, members of the 59 Mahananda Battalion conducted an operation in the early hours of Monday and intercepted the group at around 4am in the border area under Bholahat.
The detainees include eight men, 12 women, five children and two third-gender individuals, all of whom were attempting to cross the border without passports or valid travel documents.
Commander of the 59 Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria said the individuals had earlier crossed into India at different times without passports and later attempted to re-enter Bangladesh illegally.
He said the arrests were made within the international border area during the operation.
The battalion commander added that the identities, permanent addresses, national identity details and Bangladeshi citizenship status of the detainees are being verified following due legal procedures.
After preliminary verification, the process of handing them over to the concerned police station through general diaries is under way, he said.
