A total of 2,199 workers and their families will receive Tk12.98 crore in financial assistance from the Bangladesh Sramik Kallyan Foundation, which has also approved a Tk68.50 crore budget for the 2026-27 financial year.
The decisions were taken at the foundation’s 34th board meeting, chaired by Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury at the Ministry of Labour and Employment in Dhaka on Sunday.
The grants will go to workers in both formal and informal sectors and their families.
The foundation approved Tk12.98 crore in assistance and set its 2026-27 budget at Tk68.5 crore.
Chowdhury said supporting workers during hardship and strengthening their social protection were government priorities.
Workers in both formal and informal sectors play a key role in keeping production and the wider economy running, he said, adding that the ministry and the foundation were committed to protecting workers’ rights and livelihoods.
He called for coordinated efforts by government officials, employers and workers’ organisations to build a balanced, worker-friendly labour environment free from exploitation.
