Two traders were fined by the local administration in Kalia upazila on Monday night for hoarding diesel in hopes of making extra profit.
In separate drives, officials seized a total of 8,400 litres of diesel.
Kalia Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Jinnatul Islam led a raid at Baroipara ferry ghat, recovering 1,800 litres stored in nine barrels from Mauli Pintu Sheikh. He was fined Tk10,000 for hoarding fuel.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Shraboni Biswas conducted another raid in Kolabaria, seizing 6,600 litres kept in 28 barrels from Khairul Sheikh. He was fined Tk25,000 for the same offence.
Officials said the two traders had been secretly stockpiling diesel for a long time, planning to sell it at higher prices during the fuel crisis.
UNO Md Jinnatul Islam said the raids in Kolabaria and Baroipara were carried out based on confidential information.
