Two passengers of a battery-run auto-rickshaw were killed and six others injured after being hit by a private car in Satkania of Chattogram.
Dohazari Highway Police Station’s Officer-in-charge (OC) Salauddin Chowdhury confirmed the matter. The accident occurred around 9:15am on Wednesday in Moulvir Dokan BOC Mor area on Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar Highway.
The deceased were identified as Babul Dey, 55, and Ranjit Dhar, 50. The injured are Dilip Mallik, 62, Tiklu Biswas, 40, private car passenger Md Riyad, 40, Zerin Afroz, 65, Md Ehsan, 40, and Mashiur Rahman, 43.
A 29-second video of the accident has circulated on social media, showing the auto-rickshaw driver picking up passengers on the western side of the highway.
At that moment, a Chattogram-bound car hit the auto-rickshaw from behind. The auto‑rickshaw was left completely mangled after being struck by the car.
According to the police, locals rescued five of the injured and took them to Dohazari 31-bed Hospital. Following primary treatment, two of them were shifted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for advanced care, where they later succumbed to their injuries.
OC Salauddin said, “Upon receiving the news, police went to the spot, recovered both the vehicles involved in the accident, and brought them to the police station.”
He further said that the legal process is underway.
