Expatriate Bangladeshis continue to show strong interest in postal voting, with registrations for the 13th National Parliament Election and national referendum crossing 2,27,385 as of Sunday afternoon, according to updated figures from the Election Commission (EC).
The EC released the latest numbers on its website at 2:15pm, confirming a steady rise from 2,23,471 earlier in the day. Of the total registered voters, 2,03,362 are men and 20,109 are women.
Saudi Arabia leads registrations with 51,572 voters. The United States follows with 19,578, then Qatar (13,089), the UAE (12,492), Malaysia (12,116), Singapore (12,106), and the United Kingdom (11,196), reports BSS.
The EC launched the Postal Vote BD app on 18 November. Expatriates can download it from the Google Play Store and App Store and must register with a mobile number from their country of residence.
EC extends address correction deadline
The Commission has extended the deadline for expatriates to correct their address in the app until 9am on 9 December. Salim Ahmad Khan, Team Leader of the Out of Country Voting System and Implementation project, confirmed the update in a message to the media.
The EC said many expatriates requested extra time to fix incomplete or incorrect addresses. After 9 December, the app will close the address correction option.
The Commission urged voters to provide accurate and complete addresses to ensure postal ballots reach them on time. It advised them to use their workplace or an acquaintance’s address if necessary, depending on local postal regulations.
Voters engaged in election duties and government employees staying outside their constituencies can register through the app until 25 December. Voters in lawful custody also fall under this extension.
