Malaysian immigration department of Negeri Sembilan has detained 184 foreign nationals during a major operation at a battery factory in Nilai on Thursday. These workers allegedly did not have valid work permits.
According to State Immigration Director Kennith Tan Ai Kiang, the detainees included 163 men and 21 women from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Pakistan, and Indonesia, aged between 20 and 49, reports Bernama.
The operation, which began around 7:50am and continued for nearly four hours, was launched following complaints from locals about the presence of undocumented workers at the site.
“Several foreign workers attempted to hide behind heavy machinery and factory stacks to evade arrest, but all were eventually discovered,” Tan said in a statement.
All those detained were later transferred to the Lenggeng Immigration Depot pending further investigation.
Malaysian authorities said the workers were found to have committed multiple immigration offences, including lacking valid work permits, overstaying visas, and possessing no travel documents.
Legal action will be taken under the Immigration Act, Passport Act, and Immigration Regulations, officials confirmed.
