A staggering 180 of the 218 applicants failed to pass the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s district-level coaching examinations, leaving only 38 candidates successful for 61 available positions.
According to a source within the BCB’s Game Development department, 180 candidates failed the examinations, while the majority of applicants did not meet the minimum eligibility criteria to sit for them. The board consequently issued a fresh advertisement for district-level coaches on Saturday.
The BCB conducted the examinations on July 23 and 24, with the written test held on the first day and the practical examination on the second. There are 59 coaching positions at the district level and two in Dhaka Metropolitan.
However, not all 218 applicants were allowed to sit for the examinations, as many failed to meet the minimum eligibility criteria. The BCB required candidates to have completed a Level One coaching course and possess first-class cricket experience, qualifications that most applicants did not have.
The source further revealed that most of the 38 candidates who have provisionally passed the written, oral and practical examinations could still be eliminated for failing to meet the required criteria. Fewer than 15 percent of the candidates were able to achieve the pass mark in the 40-mark written examination.
