A fire at a Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) dealer’s warehouse in Hatbakail Bazar, Nijampur Union, Nachol upazila, claimed the life of a driver Wednesday night.
The victim, Noyon, 18, was son of Abbas of Hatbakail area in the upazila.
Deputy Director of Chapainawabganj Fire Service Mahbubul Islam said a unit from Nachol Fire Station rushed to the spot after receiving the alert.
Firefighters, assisted by locals, broke the warehouse locks to gain entry and brought the flames under control.
Mahbub said that while stocks of lentils, oil and sugar were damaged, some commodities were salvaged.
Nachol Fire Station Officer Emdadul Haque said Noyon’s charred body was recovered during a search after the fire was extinguished around 9pm.
Preliminary findings suggest the blaze was triggered by an electrical short circuit. Investigators believe Noyon had gone upstairs and was trapped by thick smoke, leading to death from suffocation and burns.
