Bangladesh’s rising chess prodigies enjoyed a rare opportunity to test their skills against Russian Grandmaster Peter Kiriakov, who is currently in Dhaka to train national players ahead of the upcoming Chess World Cup.
The Bangladesh Chess Federation hosted a special simultaneous exhibition match on Friday morning, where Kiriakov took on 26 players under the age of 14 at the federation’s hall room.
In a stunning result, 14-year-old Sayan Mirab Hasan from Dhaka Chess Academy defeated the visiting Grandmaster. Woman FIDE Master Warsia Khushbu and Safayet Kibria Ajan also impressed, holding Kiriakov to draws.
The exhibition served as both an inspiring and educational experience for Bangladesh’s young chess players, who relished the chance to face a world-class opponent in a competitive setting.
