Sobhana Mostary has been shortlisted for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month award for October after her record-breaking century against Australia during Bangladesh’s historic tour.
The Bangladesh batter is among three nominees for the women’s award, alongside India’s Deepti Sharma and Australia’s Annabel Sutherland. South Africa’s Marco Jansen, Pakistan’s Arafat Minhas and West Indies’ Shai Hope are the contenders for the men’s award.
Sobhana made history in the second ODI against Australia in Brisbane, scoring 118 off 134 balls with 18 fours. Although Bangladesh lost the three-match series 3-0, her innings stood out during the team’s first bilateral ODI tour of Australia.
It was her maiden international century and the first by a Bangladesh batter against Australia in either country. She also became the first Bangladeshi to score an ODI hundred against Australia at any venue.
Her 118 remains the highest individual score by a Bangladesh batter in women’s ODIs, surpassing Fargana Hoque’s 107 against India in 2023.
Sobhana did not reach double figures in the other two matches, but finished the series with 129 runs at a strike rate of 73.71.
India’s Deepti earned her nomination through contributions with both bat and ball against Zimbabwe. She scored an unbeaten 106 in the only ODI in which she batted and claimed five wickets across the three-match series, conceding 3.42 runs per over. She also scored 49 off 37 balls in a T20I and took two wickets in the format.
Sutherland played a key role in Australia’s clean sweep against Bangladesh, taking six wickets in the ODIs and scoring an unbeaten 25 and 74. She added 19 runs and a wicket in two T20Is against New Zealand.
In the men’s category, Jansen took 13 wickets and scored 198 runs in South Africa’s Test series win over Australia, earning the series’ player-of-the-series award. Minhas scored 149 runs and took nine wickets across eight matches, while Hope hit three unbeaten centuries and scored 261 runs in India’s five-match T20I series.
