Police have arrested two men and seized 1,330 litres of stolen diesel in separate drives in Hatiya upazila of Noakhali.
Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Kabir Hossain of Hatiya Police Station confirmed the matter on Thursday morning.
The arrests took place during operations on Wednesday afternoon in the Five Bigha and MP’s Pool areas under Hatiya municipality.
The detainees are Md Rasel, 22, son of Abul Kashem from Ward No. 4 of Hatiya municipality, and Md Jafar, 35, son of Azhar Ahmed from Farazi village.
Police said they conducted the drives in several markets of Hatiya municipality to prevent illegal fuel stockpiling amid the current situation in the country.
During the operation, police recovered four drums containing 760 litres of stolen diesel from a road north of Nabi Bhuiyan’s sawmill in Five Bigha village at around 12pm.
Later, at about 1:45pm, they seized another three drums containing 570 litres of diesel from the MP’s Pool area.
Police arrested the two suspects on charges of storing stolen diesel.
The OC said police have filed two separate cases over the incidents. Drives are ongoing to arrest other absconding suspects.
