Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered 100,000 Yaba tablets during a raid at the Ghumdum border in Cox’s Bazar district on Sunday morning.
However, no one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
The operation was carried out around 8am in Custom Mor area, about one kilometre inside Bangladesh from border pillar 31.
A patrol team from Ghumdum Border Outpost (BOP) under Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB) conducted the raid.
Lt Col SM Khayrul Alam, commanding officer of Cox’s Bazar Battalion (34 BGB), confirmed the seizure. He said the raid was launched following a tip-off, leading to the recovery of the ownerless Yaba tablets.
“BGB is equally committed to preventing drugs and smuggling as it is to guarding the borders,” the commanding officer said.
He added that such operations would continue to curb the smuggling of narcotics and other illegal goods across the border.
BGB said legal proceedings over the seized drugs are underway.
