BNP Standing Committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan has said that the vision of former president Ziaur Rahman must be implemented in Bangladesh’s film industry, noting that the late leader introduced key initiatives for the sector.

Speaking as chief guest at a relief distribution event organised by the Bangladesh Nationalist Film Parishad at the BFDC gate on Saturday, the BNP leader said Zia introduced the National Film Award and film grants, established the Bangladesh Film and Television Institute and the Bangladesh Film Archive, converted BTV from black-and-white to colour, and modernised BFDC.

“The development of cinema has been greatest whenever BNP has been in power. Based on past experience, our government will once again develop the film industry,” he said.

Speaking as a special guest, BNP Cultural Affairs Secretary and actor Ashraf Uddin Ahmed Uzzal alleged that BFDC had been destroyed over the past 17 years.

The event was chaired by Bangladesh Nationalist Film Parishad President and film director Badiul Alam Khokon, with a welcome speech by General Secretary and actor ABM Sohel Rashid.

A special prayer was offered for the peace of the departed souls of Ziaur Rahman, former prime minister Khaleda Zia, and Arafat Rahman. Quran recitation and Fateha were held in the morning.

The event was supported by the BFDC Nationalist Employees’ Association. Film directors, actors, and cultural personalities were among those present.
