Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid on Saturday warned of “zero tolerance” for corruption and irregularities in the distribution of seeds, fertilisers and vaccines among flood-affected farmers.
He made the remarks during a meeting with divisional and district-level officials at the Chattogram Circuit House, according to officials.
The minister said the government was working with the “utmost sincerity” to help farmers and livestock owners recover from the recent floods, although it would not be possible to compensate all losses immediately.
He announced that all livestock in flood-hit areas would be brought under the Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination programme within the next 15 days.
Animals vaccinated six months ago would also receive booster doses to ensure continued protection, he said, adding that the government was prioritising livestock health because the loss of an animal causes severe financial hardship for farming families.
The minister instructed officials to ensure government assistance reached only genuine beneficiaries and that farmers were not charged for receiving seeds, fertilisers or vaccines.
“No form of irregularity or corruption in the distribution of seeds and vaccines will be tolerated,” he said.
He also warned that immediate action would be taken against anyone found negligent or involved in irregularities in the distribution process.
