Chief Adviser (CA) Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to address the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on Friday, where he will outline Bangladesh’s recent political reforms and democratic transition.
Official sources said, the UNGA session will commence at 9am New York local time and CA Muhammad Yunus set to address the assembly as the 10th speaker of the day.
In his speech, the Chief Adviser is expected to highlight key developments under the interim government, including the reform measures initiated since assuming office, the public aspirations reflected in the July 2024 mass uprising, and the government’s commitment to ensuring a free and fair national election by February 2026.
He will also touch upon sensitive national issues such as justice for the July massacre and the ongoing Rohingya refugee crisis.
Earlier, during a media briefing, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said Chief Adviser Yunus will use the global platform to present the progress made over the past 14 months, particularly in terms of economic recovery and institutional reform.
Shafiqul Alam added that the Chief Adviser’s message to the international community will underscore Bangladesh’s readiness for a credible democratic transition. “A landmark national election will be held by February 15 next year — it will be free, fair, peaceful, and inclusive,” he said.
Chief Adviser Yunus’s address is anticipated to garner significant international attention amid growing global interest in Bangladesh’s political and humanitarian landscape.
