Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has congratulated and thanked Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman for achieving prestigious results in the 13th parliamentary election.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, he said, “I extend my sincere thanks to you for the active and extensive participation of your party’s candidates, their firm competition, and subsequently for accepting the election results in a calm and dignified manner in the election.”
He further said, “Your political etiquette, restraint, responsible statements, and calls for peaceful conduct from your activists from the election campaign period to the post-result phase have played a special role in keeping the overall situation of the country stable.”
Yunus also expressed special gratitude to the Jamaat ameer and his party for their constructive support, advice, and cooperation during the tenure of the interim government.
He noted, “Bangladesh is passing through an important time. We face many challenges and possibilities regarding the global economy, technological transformation, climate change, human resource development, and social justice.
“In this context, to make democracy stronger, participatory, and institutionally consolidated, the responsible and principled roles of both the government and the opposition are essential.”
Yunus expressed hope that Jamaat, under leadership of Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, would play an active role as a constructive and responsible opposition force in the parliament and the political arena.
He also shared his desire for the development of a healthy and positive political culture in terms of policy debates, providing advice on legislation, highlighting the expectations of the people, and ensuring the accountability of the state.
Yunus said, “It is my firm belief that Shafiqur Rahman will continue the role he played in the past to consolidate national unity. National unity is our strength.”
He concluded the message by wishing for the personal good health, longevity, and overall well-being of the Jamaat ameer.
