World University of Bangladesh (WUB) has launched its three-day ‘Business Idea Competition 2026 – Innovation for Sustainable Growth’ to encourage student innovation and entrepreneurship, the university said in a press release.
The competition was inaugurated on Monday (13 July 2026) at the Founding Treasurer Morsheda Choudhury Auditorium, with Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr M Nurul Islam attending as the chief guest.
Registrar Professor Zaki Imam and Dean of Academic Affairs and Research Professor Dr AQM Shafiul Azam attended the event as special guests, while Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Professor Dr Selim Ahmed chaired the session.
The programme began with a welcome address by Professor Dr Md Mizanur Rahman, Director of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and Co-Convenor of the Business Idea Competition 2026.
Other attendees included Professor M Moqbul Hossain, Controller of Examinations; Md Kamrul Hossain, Joint Registrar; A N M Ahsan Thouhid, Joint Registrar; Professor Dr Mohammad Quamruzzaman, Dean of the Faculty of Science & Engineering and Head of the Department of Electrical & Electronic Engineering; and Professor Dr Md Abdul Jalil, Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Humanities.
In his inaugural address, Professor Dr M Nurul Islam encouraged participants to embrace creativity, critical thinking and ethical entrepreneurship. He said innovative ideas developed by young minds could contribute significantly to national development and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The guests highlighted the importance of innovation-driven entrepreneurship in achieving sustainable economic growth and encouraged students to transform creative ideas into practical business ventures with positive social and economic impact.
A total of 24 teams from different academic departments of WUB are participating in the preliminary round, presenting business concepts focused on sustainability, technology, healthcare, agriculture, renewable energy, education, environmental conservation, legal services, tourism and social entrepreneurship.
Through the competition, WUB said it aims to strengthen its commitment to nurturing innovation, entrepreneurial excellence and sustainable leadership among students while promoting collaboration between academia and industry.
