A complaint has been filed with Satkania Police Station, accusing Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) President Colonel (Retd) Oli Ahmed and 11 of his party activists of issuing death threats and attempting an attack.
The complaint was filed on the night of 11 January by MA Hashem Raju, chief election coordinator of Jasim Uddin, BNP candidate for the Chattogram‑14 constituency.
At least 50–60 unidentified people were also mentioned as accused in the complaint.
Three days after the complaint was filed, police have still not arrested anyone. Police said the matter is under investigation and that action will be taken in accordance with the rules after the probe.
Other named accused include Delwar Hossain, president of LDP’s Puranagar Union unit in Satkania upazila; Anis Uddin, president of the Bajalia Union unit; Riyad Kamal, president of the Dharmapur Union unit; Nasir Uddin; Zainal Abedin Jamal; Zainal Abedin; Shafikur Rahman; Iqbal Hossain; Mohammad Arif Uddin; Md Roni; and HM Rezaul Karim, many of whom are reportedly from outside the Chattogram‑14 (Chandanaish–Satkania) constituency, particularly from Bandarban and Cox’s Bazar districts.
According to the complaint, since Hashem assumed charge as chief coordinator of the BNP candidate’s election management committee, Oli Ahmed and LDP leaders and activists allegedly issued threats, including threats to kill Hashem if he did not resign from the post.
It stated that on 8 January, Hashem attended a prayer in Puranagar Union seeking eternal peace for former BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia. Around 11pm that day, while returning in a microbus, his vehicle was stopped near a broken bridge west of the Bajalia Bus Stand and came under an attack.
It was alleged that, on the instructions of Oli Ahmed, more than 50 LDP leaders and activists vandalised Hashem’s vehicle and opened fire.
However, LDP President Oli did not respond to repeated calls seeking his comments.
LDP Chattogram South District General Secretary Ghulam Kibria Shimul denied the allegations, saying the LDP, Jamaat, and the 11‑party alliance were not involved and that the case named people falsely, including individuals who live in Chattogram‑15 but remain in Dhaka for business.
Satkania Police Station’s Officer‑in‑Charge Manjurul Haque said the matter is under investigation.
