The Jamaat-e-Islami led alliance has collected 13 nomination papers for the upcoming elections to the reserved women’s seats in the 13th National Parliament. Alliance leaders collected the papers from the Election Bhaban in the capital’s Agargaon on Wednesday.
Moin Uddin Khan, returning officer for the reserved seats and joint secretary of Election Commission (EC), confirmed the development on Thursday. He stated that several alliance leaders collected the 13 nomination papers in the name of “Masura.”
Meanwhile, the EC reported that while the Jamaat-led alliance has taken its 13 allocated papers, 362 female aspirants from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) have also collected nomination papers for the reserved seats.
The Election Commission previously announced the schedule for the reserved women’s seat elections on 8 April. According to the declared schedule, the final date for the submission of nomination papers is 21 April.
The scrutiny of the nomination papers will be conducted by the returning officer at the Election Commission Secretariat on 22 and 23 April. Prospective candidates wishing to file appeals may do so on 26 April, with those appeals being settled on 27 and 28 April.
The deadline for the withdrawal of candidacy is 29 April, and election symbols will be allocated on 30 April. The voting is scheduled to take place on 12 May.
