Popular director Redoan Rony, who last made the film ‘Ice Cream’, has not taken on any other film project since.
Once a prolific director, he is now serving as CEO of the OTT platform Chorki.
On December 23, 2023, at a five-star hotel in the capital, Rony announced his next film, ‘Domm’. After nearly two years of silence, he recently confirmed that the project is moving forward. Afran Nisho has now been added to the cast, joining the previously confirmed Chanchal Chowdhury.
Another name currently circulating in the industry is Pooja Cherry.
Sources reveal that discussions have been ongoing with Pooja for the past two months. Reportedly, verbal agreements regarding her casting have been finalised. However, Rony has denied confirmation of Pooja being cast for the lead role.
He clarified, “Before finalising the heroine, we’re focusing more on the story and location. The lead actress will be selected through auditions. As the shoot is tentatively set for September or October, our current priority is finalising the shooting spots.”
A representative from the production company also confirmed that several actresses, including Pooja, are being considered. “Whether it’s Pooja or someone else, the lead actress will be chosen through an audition process,” the source said.
No official comment has been received from Pooja Cherry regarding the matter.
Given the long gap since the film was first announced, Rony shared that much of the original plan is being revised.
“We had a script written before. If we had made the film back then, it would have followed that version. But now, with changing circumstances, we’re developing the story on a larger scale. I can say that the story is now richer than before.”
The film is claimed to be based on a true story.
“You could call it a story of survival,” Rony explained. “It has some international connections, which we will officially announce later. What I can say now is that the film aims to highlight the strength that lies within ordinary people.”
Domm is being jointly produced by Chorki and SVF’s Alpha Eye Studios, and is being developed for tentative release on the next Eid-ul-Fitr.
So, when will filming begin? Alpha Eye director Shahriar Shakil commented, “We’re holding our breath. We can confirm that the film is definitely happening. However, it’s too early to announce the full cast or confirm a shooting schedule beyond Chanchal Chowdhury’s involvement.”
Pooja Cherry, who began her career as a child artist, made her debut as a lead actress in Abhimanyu Mukherjee’s ‘Noor Jahan’.
However, she truly came into the spotlight with Raihan Rafi’s ‘Poramon 2’.
