The final set of European qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup takes place on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, with automatic places and play off spots still up for grabs across the continent. Here is how each group stands, with what every team needs to reach the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Group A
(Germany, Slovakia, Northern Ireland, Luxembourg)
Germany host Slovakia in a straight shootout for qualification. Germany need only avoid defeat to reach the finals, while Slovakia must win to return to the World Cup for the first time since 2010. The runner up will go to the play offs, joined by third placed Northern Ireland via the Nations League route.
Group B
(Switzerland, Kosovo, Slovenia, Sweden)
Switzerland will reach a sixth consecutive World Cup if they avoid losing to Kosovo by six goals or more. Kosovo are already guaranteed a play off berth and are targeting a first ever major tournament appearance.
Group C
(Denmark, Scotland, Greece, Belarus)
Denmark will qualify if they draw or win in Scotland. Scotland must take all three points to claim the automatic place, with the loser dropping into the play offs.
Group D
(France, Ukraine, Iceland, Azerbaijan)
France have already secured qualification. Ukraine, in third, host second placed Iceland and need a win to leapfrog their visitors and claim a play off position.
Group E
(Spain, Turkey, Georgia, Bulgaria)
Spain will qualify if they avoid a seven goal defeat at home to Turkey. Turkey are guaranteed at least a play off spot.
Group F
(Portugal, Hungary, Republic of Ireland, Armenia)
Portugal, without the suspended Cristiano Ronaldo, will qualify with a win over Armenia or if Hungary draw at home to Ireland. All three can still top the group, but Ireland must win to secure a minimum of a play off place.
Group G
(Netherlands, Poland, Finland, Lithuania, Malta)
The Netherlands are effectively through and can confirm qualification by avoiding defeat to bottom side Lithuania. Poland, who are assured a play off place, must beat Malta, hope the Netherlands lose and overturn a 13 goal difference deficit to take first place.
Group H
(Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Romania, Cyprus, San Marino)
Austria will seal top spot if they avoid defeat at home to Bosnia. Bosnia must win to claim automatic qualification, otherwise they drop to the play offs.
Group I
(Norway, Italy, Israel, Estonia, Moldova)
Norway will qualify for their first World Cup since 1998 unless they lose by nine or more goals to Italy. Italy are almost certain to enter the play offs for a third consecutive qualification cycle.
Group J
(Belgium, North Macedonia, Wales, Kazakhstan, Liechtenstein)
Belgium will qualify with a home win over bottom placed Liechtenstein or if North Macedonia and Wales draw in Cardiff. All three contenders can still win the group, but Wales must take maximum points to secure at least a play off spot.
Group K
(England, Albania, Serbia, Latvia, Andorra)
England have already qualified and Albania are assured of a play off position.
Group L
(Croatia, Czech Republic, Faroe Islands, Montenegro, Gibraltar)
Croatia have qualified and the Czech Republic have secured a play off place.
