BNP Chairman Tariq Rahman has asked for votes for the “Paddy Sheaf” symbol to change people’s fate.
He was speaking at an election rally on Thursday afternoon at the Ainpur Playground in Sherpur, Moulvibazar district.
Tariq Rahman said, “If the country is to be saved, it will be through the election on the 12 February. If we want to initiate democracy in the country and change people’s fate through that upcoming election, then we must stamp on the Paddy Sheaf. We must vote for the Paddy Sheaf candidate. Many people across the country have shed blood, demanding the election on February 12.”
Tarique Rahman called upon the countrymen to work together for the country’s reconstruction. Mentioning BNP’s commitment to protecting the country’s independence and sovereignty, he said, “We must activate the democratic process in the future, we must give people the right to speak in the country.”
He posed the question, “Who can give this assurance? Which party? Only the Paddy Sheaf can give this assurance. Many respected elders are present here. The elders are witnesses, whenever the Paddy Sheaf had the responsibility of governing the country, whether it was municipal elections or union parishad elections, by the grace of Allah, elections have been held fairly properly. When the Paddy Sheaf was in power, every person could speak their mind freely, could criticise the government. If there was any mistake, they could tell the government. No person was a victim of enforced disappearance or murder.”
He also outlined his plans for the country’s development.
Presided over by Moulvibazar District President Naser Rahman, BNP candidates from Moulvibazar constituencies spoke at the rally. Tarique Rahman’s presence at a public rally after a long time has generated immense enthusiasm among leaders and activists.
