The United States will release $12 billion in frozen assets to Iran before negotiations begin, Mehr news agency reported Monday, citing a 14‑point memorandum of understanding between the two countries.
The document published by Mehr states that $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets will be released during the 60‑day negotiation period following the signing of the memorandum.
“Half of this amount must be made available to Iran before the start of the negotiations,” the text specifies.
