Apparel manufacturer Urmi Group has won two honours at the SDG Brand Champion Award 2026, recognising its initiatives in women’s empowerment and sustainable manufacturing.
The company said in a statement on Sunday that it received the SDG Brand Champion – Women Empowerment award for its programme, Empowered at Work, Stronger at Home: The Urmi Woman, and the SDG Brand Champion – Most Sustainable RMG/Garment of the Year award for its environmental and responsible manufacturing practices.
The awards, organised by Bangladesh Brand Forum and the Sustainable Brand Initiative, recognise organisations that advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through responsible business practices, social impact and environmental stewardship.
Asif Ashraf, managing director of Urmi Group, said the recognition reflected the company’s long-term commitment to embedding sustainability across its operations rather than treating it as a standalone initiative.
“This recognition reflects the collective dedication, commitment and hard work of every member of the Urmi family. For us, sustainability is not a standalone initiative; it is embedded in our business philosophy and integrated into every aspect of our operations,” he said.
He also credited the company’s senior management and its strategic business units for supporting its sustainability agenda.
The women empowerment award recognises Urmi Group’s efforts to expand female workforce participation, develop leadership, promote workplace safety and strengthen women’s economic inclusion.
The sustainability award acknowledges the company’s work in environmentally responsible manufacturing, efficient resource use and sustainable business operations.
The dual recognition comes as Bangladesh’s export-oriented garment manufacturers face increasing pressure from global buyers to demonstrate stronger environmental, social and governance performance alongside competitiveness in international markets.
