The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organised a three-day programme to mark Earth Day 2026 from 20 to 22 April.
The event brought together students, academics, policymakers, and industry representatives for a series of activities focused on environmental awareness and sustainability, according to a press release.
The programme featured 38 events, including academic discussions, industry sessions, student-led initiatives, exhibitions, and cultural performances. Participants included national and international experts, diplomats, and development professionals.
Among the speakers were Ali Ashfaq, FCA former partner at KPMG Bangladesh; Rakibul Hasan, deputy chief Conservator of Forests; writer and river researcher Sheikh Rokon; BIID CEO Md Shahid Uddin Akbar; Zheng Li of East China Normal University; Han Kun, country head of PowerChina Bangladesh; Olle Lundin from the Swedish Embassy; Sumit Bisarya, head of Constitutional Governance and Rule of Law at International IDEA; and Ariful Hasan Opu, CEO of e-Soft.
ULAB Vice-Chancellor Prof Shamsad Mortuza said the initiative aimed to move beyond symbolic observance and encourage meaningful engagement on environmental issues.
“Earth Day is not just a symbolic observance, but a call to action. Through this programme, we aimed to inspire our students and the wider community to take responsibility for building a sustainable future,” he said.
The event also included cultural performances and live concerts, aimed at promoting awareness and community participation.
Through the programme, ULAB reaffirmed its commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability.
