United International University (UIU) ranked first among private universities in Bangladesh in the Earth and Environmental Sciences category of the Nature Index Institutional Ranking 2026, a globally recognised research assessment platform that evaluates high-quality scientific output in leading international journals, according to a press release.
The ranking, based on research publications produced between 1 February 2025 and 31 January 2026, placed UIU 10th overall among all research and educational institutions in Bangladesh in the category, 8th among all universities, and 1st among private universities, reflecting its growing research footprint in environmental and earth sciences.
Nature Index is widely regarded as an independent benchmark for measuring global research excellence, tracking institutional performance based on publications in leading science and health journals. UIU’s performance marks a significant milestone in its ongoing efforts to strengthen research, innovation and higher education quality.
The university attributed the achievement to sustained contributions from researchers in environmental and earth sciences, particularly within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department of Environment and Development Studies (EDS), said in a press release.
UIU said it continues to prioritise research-driven education, international collaboration and innovation, while expanding research infrastructure and improving the quality and global impact of its scholarly output. The institution also noted that the recognition is expected to contribute to the broader development of Bangladesh’s higher education and research ecosystem.
