United Commercial Bank posted a record deposit growth in 2025, adding nearly Tk13,000 crore and setting a new benchmark in Bangladesh’s banking sector at a time of prolonged economic and financial pressure.

The bank’s deposit growth more than tripled year on year, rising sharply from Tk4,082 crore in 2024 to almost Tk13,000 crore in 2025, marking the highest annual increase in UCB’s history, the bank said in a press release.

The surge was accompanied by strong expansion in the customer base. UCB opened 6.78 lakh new accounts in 2025, up from 4.11 lakh a year earlier, reflecting growing public confidence in the bank’s financial strength and service delivery.

Alongside deposit mobilisation, the bank strengthened liquidity and risk management. UCB reduced its advance-to-deposit ratio from 91.30 per cent in 2024 to 83 per cent in 2025, signalling improved balance-sheet discipline and financial stability.

To mark the milestone, UCB organised celebrations across its branches and offices nationwide, with employees participating in events recognising the achievement. The bank expressed gratitude to depositors, customers, investors, the board, employees, regulators including Bangladesh Bank and other stakeholders for their continued support.

UCB Chairman Sharif Zahir said the nearly Tk13,000 crore deposit growth reflected customers’ trust in the bank, adding that the confidence also carried responsibility. He said UCB financed exports worth about $3.3 billion during the year and supported a nearly equal volume of imports, demonstrating resilience despite volatility in the dollar market.

Managing Director and CEO Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid said the performance showed how customer trust, disciplined execution and professional integrity translated into results, adding that the bank would continue to focus on customer-centric banking, prudent risk management and sustainable growth.

The record performance underscored UCB’s ability to deliver strong results through liquidity discipline, expanding customer outreach and consistent execution, even amid challenging market conditions.
