Police recovered the bodies of two students from separate residences in Dhaka’s Mugda and Badda areas on Tuesday in suspected suicide cases.

The deceased were identified as Arian Fardin, 23, and Meherin Akter Mim, 25. Their bodies were sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for post-mortem examinations late Tuesday night.

Mugda Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Abu Yusuf Mridha said Arian, son of Rafiqul Islam Khokon, was originally from Lalbagh in Old Dhaka. He had completed his higher secondary education and was planning to go abroad.

On 13 October, Arian left home after telling his parents he was going to give private tuition at a residence in Uttar Maniknagar, Mugda.
His mother later visited the residence and found the room locked from inside. After repeated phone calls went unanswered, she sought help from neighbours to break open the door.

They found Arian hanging from a ceiling fan with a ligature around his neck.

Police were informed and recovered his body on Tuesday afternoon. The reason behind his suspected suicide remains unknown.
Meanwhile, police recovered the body of Meherin Akter Mim from a seventh-floor flat in the Merul Kachabazar area of Badda.

According to an inquest report prepared by Badda Police Station Sub-Inspector Anwara Akter, Mim was from the Nawabganj area of Dhaka. Her father, Aminul Bhuiya, is deceased.

Mim had completed her master’s degree at East West University and married Abdullah Al Rabbi three months ago following a romantic relationship.

Rabbi is a final-year law student at Brac University.

The couple lived in a rented flat on the seventh floor of Parveen Haque Manzil in Merul Kachabazar Goli.

Police said Mim’s family had not accepted the marriage. On Tuesday, her mother reportedly reprimanded her over the phone.
Preliminary police findings suggest that Mim may have died by suicide following the conversation.

Police recovered her body from the flat that night.

The inquest report noted no visible injuries on her body apart from a crescent-shaped dark mark around her neck.
