Two people were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a passenger Mahindra vehicle and a truck on the Rajshahi-Naogaon highway on Wednesday morning.
The accident took place around 8:45am in the Kharail Milghar area of Mohanpur upazila, according to police and eyewitnesses.
The deceased were identified as Md Maruf Hossain, 37, an officer at Keshorehat Islami Bank, who died at the scene. He was the son of Mohammad Ali from Chak Shyamrai village in Manda upazila, Naogaon.
Another victim succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. His identity could not be confirmed until Wednesday afternoon.
Following the collision, the Mahindra vehicle was completely crushed. Many passengers inside sustained serious injuries. Police and Fire Service personnel rescued the injured and admitted them to hospital.
Hospital sources said one of the injured remains in critical condition, while three others are currently receiving treatment.
SI Yamin Ali of Mohanpur Police Station confirmed that the body of Maruf Hossain has been recovered and taken to the police station.
The officer said the law-and-order situation in the area remains normal following the accident, and legal proceedings are ongoing.
