Police recovered the bodies of a young woman and a man from New Market and Lalbagh in the capital.
The deceased were identified as Khadija Akter, 23, and Chunnu Sardar, 50.
The bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue on Sunday afternoon for post-mortem examination.
Khadija was the daughter of Abdul Malek of Sahadebpur Hajibari village in Kachua upazila of Chandpur and had been living at Waz Uddin Tower on Elephant Road under New market police station.
In an inquest report, New Market Police Station Sub-Inspector Debashish Sutradhar said Khadija, a service holder, had been living in flat 14-D of the building with her husband Sakin for the past six to seven months.
She often asked her husband to take her to his family home, but he did not, leading to frequent arguments, he said. Sakin left her at the flat and went to his village home on 19 February, he said.
At some point between 10am and 8pm on Saturday, she hanged herself from a ceiling fan with an orna, according to the inquest report.
Police recovered her hanging body from the flat around 8pm on Saturday after receiving information.
Chunnu Sardar was the son of the late Adaluddin of Bailatali village in Muladi upazila of Barishal and had been living in lane 2 of Shaheednagar in Lalbagh.
In an inquest report, Lalbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Nazmul Hossain said Chunnu worked at a shoe factory.
He was found hanging from a fan with a rope in his rented house on Sunday morning and police recovered the body around 10am after being informed.
He may have taken the step due to financial hardship, police initially suspected.
The bodies were sent for post-mortem to ascertain the exact causes of death.
