Detectives have arrested two men during an operation in the remote hilly areas of Patiya, Chattogram.
Based on information provided by the arrestees, four firearms, a large cache of locally made weapons, and two mobile phones were later recovered.
Superintendent of Police Md Masud Alam disclosed the details at a press briefing held at the Chattogram District Police Office around 12pm Saturday.
The arrestees are Md Delwar Hossain, 54 and Md Mohsin, 33, residents of Innarpara in Kelishahar union, Patiya upazila.
Acting on a tip‑off, a team of Detective Branch of police conducted the operation in Kelishahar’s remote hilly area on Thursday afternoon. Despite difficult terrain and the risk of armed resistance, the team arrested the two suspects.
Later in the day, a search was carried out at Delwar Hossain’s house in Innarpara. Several sharp weapons and two mobile phones were recovered from under a bed, police said.
Another raid was conducted at Afchar’s orchard in Chatibhanga area of the same union, where DB recovered two single‑barrel guns and two locally made LGs hidden there.
Primary investigation suggests the seized firearms and weapons were stockpiled for use in various terrorist and criminal activities.
During the press briefing, SP Masud Alam said the district police maintain a “zero tolerance” policy against crime, terrorism, and illegal arms.
He added that intelligence surveillance has been intensified across the district, including remote hill areas, alongside regular special operations.
Investigations and raids are ongoing to identify other associates, sources of the weapons, and possible militant networks. Legal proceedings in connection with the incident are also underway.
