Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed his gratitude to US President Donald Trump following the announcement that tariffs on Indian exports to the United States will be reduced to 18 percent.
In a social media post, Modi described his interaction with the US President as “wonderful” and thanked him on behalf of the 1.4 billion people of India for the decision.
“Wonderful to speak with my dear friend President Trump today. Delighted that Made in India products will now have a reduced tariff of 18%,” Modi stated.
He further noted that the cooperation between the world’s two largest democracies would “unlock immense opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation” and provide significant benefits to their respective populations.

The reduction in tariffs comes as part of a broader trade adjustment between the two nations. US President Trump previously announced that India would begin lowering its import taxes on American goods to zero.
As part of the reciprocal arrangement, India has also committed to purchasing $500 billion worth of American products.
This diplomatic breakthrough follows recent pressure from the US administration for India to decrease its reliance on Russian oil. By aligning more closely on trade, both leaders indicated a commitment to strengthening the economic ties between the two major global economies.
