Donald Trump has taken his long-running war with the press online, unveiling a new White House web page that labels ‘Media Offender of the Week’ and maintains a running ‘Hall of Shame’. The page highlights outlets it claims have published “false and misleading” stories about the former president, urging visitors to “Scroll for the Truth.”
Among the inaugural list is CBS News, now owned by David Ellison and run by Bari Weiss, which was criticised over coverage of Trump’s comments on ex-Navy pilot Senator Mark Kelly and other members of Congress. Other outlets on the list include the Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, the New York Times, Politico and the Wall Street Journal.
The page details dozens of TV segments, articles and online reports, effectively codifying Trump’s longstanding attacks on the media. While late-night hosts such as Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers and Stephen Colbert escape criticism in this round, other MAGA-friendly outlets are included.
This marks a more formalised approach than Trump’s usual social media commentary. CBS News and the White House have not commented on the page.
Interestingly, Trump recently praised CBS News’ new leadership under Weiss and Ellison, calling it “the greatest thing that’s happened in a long time to a free and open and good press.”
Despite the compliments, CBS News now joins the list of outlets facing public rebuke from the US president’s new online platform.
