The US President posted his message on Truth Social at 9:12pm local time, offering encouragement after America lost by 29 runs. The timing, more than the sentiment, drove the discussion.
“I just heard the Cricket World Cup is underway in India! I wish the best of luck to TEAM USA! We have a very strong team. America is rooting for you!” Trump wrote, putting American cricket briefly into the political spotlight.
It was a rare moment for a sport still fighting for oxygen in the United States. Cricket barely registers in mainstream American sporting culture, and presidential attention arrived late in the tournament narrative.
Fans noticed immediately. Many questioned how the President discovered the World Cup only after the USA had already faced defending champions India under the lights in Mumbai.
The match itself told a sharper story than the social media reaction. Despite defeat, the Americans showed grit with the ball and rattled India early.
USA reduced India to 77 for six, exploiting movement and discipline on a surface expected to favour batting. That spell forced India to scrap rather than stroll.
